Torbay Sailability Project

Torbay Sailability enables disabled and disadvantaged young people to experience sailing on board our 26 feet Colgate Boat. Each year they work with approximately 100 young people between the months of April to October.

During the six week courses, the children learn all about the sea and marine life alongside learning new skills in sailing, communications and gaining huge amounts of confidence. They also receive a certificate on completion of the course.

Support

All activity is provided free of charge meaning that the charity spends lots of time fundraising each year. The trustees had reached a point of dissolution and concern for the future financial security of the organisations and asked for some help in broadening their funding knowledge.

Solutions

4George worked with the trustees to identify a range of potential funding options and to clarify how much the charity needed to raise each year to be sustainable. We provided a funding landscape and templates for writing to charitable trusts and foundations. We also worked with them to develop an application to the Postcode Community Trust on their behalf.

Success

To date the charity has received an award of £7795 from the Postcode Community trust towards a new engine for the safety boat and six sets of junior sailing equipment including life jackets.
