Cale Park Wincanton

Wincanton Cale Park is a Town Council owned recreational ground and open space facility in the centre of the town of Wincanton in South Somerset.

Support

Following spates of vandalism to the pavilion and the children’s playground over the last few years, the town were left with a very sad looking public green space with almost nothing left for children to play on or visitors to use.

Working with Somerset District Council, local schools, youth groups and the wider community, Wincanton Town Council developed a plan to turn the area into a bespoke play space to meet the needs of local families and create a focal area within the town centre. 4George supported the council to turn this plan into a deliverable project.

Solutions

Once the design was in place, 4George worked with Wincanton Town Council  to secure approximately £175,000 of funding for the project including  a large grant from Viridor Credits along with other funding from local and national grant giving foundations.

Success

The site is now completely transformed. A new footbridge is in place over the river Cale, making access to the new play area far easier along with better access to the park from all areas of the town. A new play area which includes equipment for children of all ages has been created and some extensive landscaping enhances the natural habitat.

In August 2016 the new play area was officially opened to the public coinciding with South Somerset District Council Play Days.
